Chers collègues,
How many of you have, for the past few years, been thinking about organising a school trip to France...The children are asking for it, the parents recognise (however reluctantly) that Europe is here to stay, your Headteacher has mentioned it several times....and yet....
...the sum of effort and responsibility looks overwhelming, not to mention the difficulty to choose an organiser. Do U.K.based organisers really have good reliable contacts in France? How does one go about finding a French organiser with real local knowledge and competence.
At D.L.S., we offer both !
At this stage, I should explain that throughout the eighties I taught French and Spanish in Comprehensive schools in South Yorkshire and in the West Midlands As a teacher, and then Head of Modern Languages, I organised school trips to France and Spain every year. Hence the headline at the top of this page....!
Obviously, I came across all the problems which can mar these trips, but I always found that the children's enthusiastic response made the effort worthwhile.
As a teacher, I could never envisage teaching French or Spanish to a class without offering them the opportunity to discover the true use of what they were being taught, i.e. genuine communication with native speakers, the invaluable added bonus being the human experience of discovering a different culture...
D.L.S. has organised trips to the U.K. for French schools for the past fifteen years, and we have here in Bordeaux a complete set up to offer you and your pupils a truly memorable experience.
Visits to the Saint-Emilion vineyards, to the Landes pine forests, the Dordogne valley and its castles, the highest sand dune in Europe at Le Pyla, an overnight stop in Paris, cross-country (no risk) ski-ing in the Pyrenees, even an incursion into Spain...
Accommodation can be with French host families or youth hostals. We provide transport from your school, as we work with several U.K. coach companies, or can book TGV trains and local coaches.
